Outrageous Food: choice of host perplexing

silence9 | Dec 6, 201005:25 AM

As someone who can generally enjoy the 'antics' of many an obnoxious host on the Food Network, I have tried several times now to watch the show Outrageous Food, to little avail. The host, Tom Pizzica, seems so off-putting, that I cannot but help imagine that he has no idea as to how his on-air persona translates to the viewer. Perhaps his handlers want him to fail? I dunno. He has actually made Guy Fieri seem like Dan Rather, by comparison. As for Tom himself, he reminds me of a living version of Krusty The Klown from The Simpsons. In the 4 or 5 episodes I've attemped to watch, Pizzica seems to often antagonize the customers who are attempting to conquer the plates of 'Outrageous Food' he sets before them, cajoling them to finish, instead of cheering/inspiring them to win the eating contests. And when in the kitchen with a chef, he all too often fingers the food being prepared and then charges the camera like a rabid bull with his burly head, and sticks out his tongue in a weird combination of derision and bravado. This fellow is truly perplexing, and I believe serves as a reminder that nearly anyone could host one of these food stunt shows. I don't enjoy viewing failure on anyone's part, and maybe he'll improve, but jeez louise, cannot someone from the network do this guy a solid and enroll him in a tai chi class or check the mercury levels in his water supply?
