oslo for the day on layover (report)

shipshape | Feb 17, 201602:26 PM     1

When I was researching what to eat in Oslo during a 9 hour layover, I didn't find a ton, so I wanted to be sure to post here. The trip into the city on the Flytoget was super easy and fast (20 min) and downtown Oslo was very walkable.

We got lunch at FISKERIET, a fishmarket just a couple blocks from the train station. It was really wonderful and a delightful surprise - we got the fish and shellfish "casserole" (a stew, really) which was chock full of clams, mussels, crab legs, salmon, shrimp, fennel, and leeks. We also got the fish fish soup which was creamy and rich with generous chunks of salmon. With two soft drinks the total was about 55 USD - maybe a little pricey for a casual lunch in the States but absolutely worth it for the quality and amount of seafood. Their fish and chips looked really excellent, too.

Next we headed to FUGLEN for pourover coffee and a chai latte. The coffee was excellent and the vibe of the space is really warm. (The chai was just OK.)

Before heading back to the airport (we spent the whole time walking around but could have easily fit in a museum visit), we stopped at APENT BAKERI and picked up a cured meat and cheese sandwich. The sandwich was really tasty and the perfect thing to eat on our late-evening flight. I think they have a bunch of locations around the city.

In the airport we had a couple glasses of wine and a crayfish salad somewhere that seemed to be called SEAFOOD BAR(?). It came out to about 60 USD and was fine but not worth it. (Not too surprising since Oslo is very expensive, but definitely a let-down after our lunch at Fiskeriet.
