Hello, we are a San Francisco family of 4 visiting New Orleans for the first time this summer (in mid-August) - 2 adult kids in their 20s and 60ish parents. We love to eat and are looking for recs on how to spend our meals experiencing New Orleans classics (we have tons of options here in SF and want this experience to be city specific).
We basically don't know anything about the New Orleans food scene (Except we know Emeril and John Besh's names - are they just celebrity hype or should we be prioritizing their restaurants? The celebrity chef concept doesn't have much traction here in SF but we ate at Rick Bayless' high end place in Chicago last summer and loved it. It's hard to tell) except that we want to eat Gulf Seafood. We would appreciate any and all advice - we love all kinds of food and will eat across a range of price points. We'll have a couple of high end meals but are totally down with holes in the wall or bars that happen to have great sandwiches.
We have not secured an apartment yet - we've been collecting information about the best neighborhoods to stay in and any feedback on that level would be appreciated (or just general feedback). We'll be in town August 9-14 if that affects where to stay or eat.
