I have been a key contributor to this board as an Orlando "expert" for a little bit, but I've taken a new job in Miami, so I've loaded up the family in the Chowster and headed south.
It's a bittersweet time - it was nice to have a handle on a market and Orlando was showing promise, but it is so exciting to have new dining experiences ahead of me in such a vibrant culinary city like Miami. I hope to get "up to speed" in Miami so that I can join TPigeon, lax2mia, sobe, netmover and the others doing such a fine job covering the area.
We are currently in temporary housing in Brickell and have already visited The River Oyster Bar (surprisingly good), Pericone's, Azul, Garcia's and Gordon Biersch (ugh) downtown as well as Joe's Stone Crab and Cafeteria in Sobe. Life is a little different for us now as we have a 4-month old, but she's a heavy sleeper and we're taking advantage of that to hit as many places as possible before she gets old enough to move constantly. That said, we respect other diners too much to take her to a quiet or romantic place regardless of whether or not she's sleeping.
Due to housing and family needs, I think we'll wind up living in southwest Broward once we buy a place, but rest assured we'll drive anywhere for great grub. The board is covered with great recommendations for Miami and I have or will read as many as possible, but I was hoping for the expert's top overall picks for a new resident to take advantage of before we move to the 'burbs, especially any downtown options not to miss.
So - I'm glad to be here, will miss Orlando, and hope to add value here in the future.
PS - Any opinions on Duo downtown? No mentions of it on the board.
