Last night we went to Origami - it was an special occasion so we sat at the sushi bar and ordered the Omakase ($80). We talked to the sushi man in front of us and told him how we really wanted something new and surprising, and how happy we had been in previous trips when the Omakase included delicacies such as sea urchin, jelly fish, etc. This was a younger sushi man, and how disappointed were we when he gave us tons of sushi and sashimi great quality fish, but all things we could just have ordered ourselves, no creativity seriously, sushi and makki and sashimi period! Eighty bucks! He did include uni (sea urchin) in the mix, but that was it. Meanwhile, another sushi man served the couple sitting next to us, and he was making them try great things, and they hadnt even ordered the Omakase!! I was so frustrated that couldnt even give feedback just told him we had too much sushi, to include more variety of dishes the next time the trip back home was silent, both of us feeling a little cheated. Am I wrong to be so frustrated? Anyone with a bad Omakase experience at Origami? Should the entire experience be so dependant on the sushi man standing in front of your seat??
