just was there. nice joint, the atmosphere reminded me of campanile mixed with kate matinilini but a little better. and those easy chairs at the two-tops are great. we had butter lettuce salad, beet salad, the lobster butter poached, the duck breast and confit, and rasberry financier, and hazelnut parfait for dessert. the butter lettuce was good, though it needed a lot more avocado slices to round out the dish and $10 price (two measly nickle sized pieces won't do it) and the pungent cheese on it, i don't know what kind of cheese it was just got in the way. didn't try the beet salad though. the butter lobster was ok i think, i didn't order it so only got about two or three bites it was buttery but not at all that flavorful. this dish is way way overrated, by s. irene and others. the duck dish on the otherhand was tremendous, with excellent tasty duck breast in a great sauce and some good duck leg confit also rounding out the dish. on to dessert, there was the rasberry financier which was sort of like a cornmeal cake studded with rasberries and topped with softly whipped cream and rasberry sauce. great stuff. and also the hazelnut parfait, which i expected to come in a parfait glass, with many layers, but unexpectedly it was merely a slab of terrine-like ice cream, vanilla, i guess with some hazelnut studded in it, it was ok but parfait and semi freddo are merely fancey words for what turned out to be ordinary ice cream. not bad ice cream, just ordinary. overall good eats in nice surroundings, though the area outside the restuarant is definitely on the dodgey side.
