any opinions on mayfel's (asheville, nc)

a friend, my wife and i went to mayfel's for brunch this past sunday. unfortunately, their head chef chose that particular morning to walk off the job. this, of course, threw the kitchen into a tailspin. it took at least an hour to get our food, although the restaurant staff was very gracious about it, comped our drinks and apologized profusely. no problems at all with the service.

i had the huevos rancheros, my wife got the basic breakfast plate (eggs, bacon, biscuit & gravy, grits), and our friend got the muffaletta. overall it wasn't bad, but it wasn't too great either. my huevos were decent, but needed a little heat. my wife said her meal was good (the biscuit & gravy, in particular, were good). the muffaletta was a visual disappointment (i should add here that i make a fantastic muffaletta) and our friend said it was just alright. the potatoes that came with all three meals were excellent.

has anyone else been there? were we paying the price for their chef problem? or is the food always just ok?
