Opera ideas (and other Manhattan)

NYC hounds, my husband and I have shattered the piggy bank and will be in Manhattan for two nights in February to go to the Met. What I need are some good dining suggestions (and perhaps breakfast/lunch as well?) that will work around the opera. Because of the schedule (and our now-precarious financial situation), we should probably aim for somewhere in the mid-range as opposed to Daniel-level, but after that we're completely open to all recommendations. Should we try to eat before or could we dine as well or better after? Are there other particularly Chow-ish places that we should attempt to try for non-dinner meals? Is there anything we absolutely, positively should not miss? I'm perfectly willing to arrange all our extra-opera sight-seeing around chasing after the perfect Mexican, or Asian, or whatever, bite. We'll be staying in the Murray Hill area, if that makes a difference.
