Pancho Villa taqueria opens its Embarcadero branch just north of the Ferry Building tomorrow. We sat outside in the sun and watched the employees inside rehearse rolling burritos. Prices are a little higher than the Mission (burritos cost something like $5.85 although tacos start at $2.25) but it's definitely cheaper than Mijita. Plus they serve breakfast. Based on the number of people who knocked on the door to see what was happening, they're going to do well.
We ended up having hot dogs from Let's Be Frank (tipped off by Patricia Untermann's article in last week's Examiner), on the ferry side of the Ferry Building, outside Acme and Book Passage. Grass-fed dogs with grilled onions and homemade chili for $6 each. Not cheap but truly delicious.
Walking home, I noticed Toad's had opened in the old Cafe Arguello spot on the corner of 26th and Valencia. Burgers, hot dogs, fried calamari, chicken wings and salads. Decent selection of beer on tap. Cheap for dinner, although the burgers with fries or salad run $6-9, so Noe Valley prices.
