Omaha-Bohemian Cafe

I've been wanting to try this place for four years, ever since I spotted the tiled front and great sign. Would that it had remained a dream...

Dingy inside. Off-handed waitresses. Smell of old smoke throughout (not so nice even for this smoker). Needless to say--my LA guest was appalled.

Liver dumpling soup was ok--a mild beef consomme with a properly livery dumpling. Everything else was about on the level of lunchroom food. Chicken livers overcooked in gloppy ('Burgundy') sauce. ok sweet and sour cabbage. Friend's 'roast beef' was a hunk of gray potted meat accompanied by canned corn niblets.

Good apple streudel though--would stop back for a piece to go.

Makes me wonder about Gourmet having rated it a 'regional find'. Czech food is about much much more than this!
