we spent a forgettable meal at the Ocean Grill in Vero Beach last friday. I'd seen some positive posts, but the food was expensive And dull. Who needs that? The best part of the meal was a nice pinot noir (David Bruce 2000) that they sell by the glass. Lots of body and tannins for a pinot noir. The lobster was overcooked, the side dishes (creamed spinach and stuffed potato) were over cooked--the potato tasted solely of cream cheese and pimento. ugh. The roast duck was under seasoned, the wild rice pilaf was nearly tasteless.
On the positive side, we talked of taking our rural Iowa relatives there when they visit. The restaurant is on the ocean, the casual dress code is unintimidating for those who dress in nice sweatshirts for an evening out, and the food is nothing that will scare them. Perfect.
