Being a long time milkshake devotee, I had my first malt (or is it malted?) a few weeks ago, when I was feeling reckless and experimental. The first slurp tasted pretty good, but by the third all I could taste was bare potential.
So I've been trying malts/malteds everywhere. Passing up favorite haunts to go to any place that serves malts, even having malts in place of two meals a day.
I keep slurping and sipping and tasting and trying, and still haven't found what I consider to be the Holy Grail of Chocolate Maltness/Maltedness.
I want something I can barely suck out of a straw. It should taste like chocolate with my eyes closed--should be something more than grayish-brown frozen sludge. The malt flavor should be clearly present, not lumpily lurking in the background. Not too sweet, and not too milky.
It would be nice if all this perfection were to be found on the west side, but I'm willing to travel to the home of my dream malt.
