Here's one to avoid: El Texate in Sta. Monica. Ugh. Lackluster salsa, margarita made from mix with indetectable amounts of alcohol ($6.25), a pretty bad pasty mole verde, and a "barbacoa de chivo" which had neither the red pepper nor avocado leaves as promised. They CHARGED us for tortillas (what??). When we honestly said we were disappointed with the food, they argued with us. For 2 of us it cost $47 (before tip) and we did not eat alot. The "tamal de mole negro" was decent, but they had only one left. I am posting this b/c there is a dearth of recent posts re: Oaxacan food in LA on ChowHounds. Had there been some better tips here, we may have avoided this place. We have been to Juquila, which was pretty good. Guelaguetza on Olympic was worse even than our trip to El Texate tonight. We hope to have better luck with our next foray, if we try again, that is!
