I went in last evening about 8:15 for the Tuesday special oxtail, only to find that they were out. Apparently the special usually runs out by 6. Damn. I bet thats when the small buffet packs up tooit was up and running late Saturday afternoon when I dropped in to look around. Looked & smelled pretty good, but I had other plans.
So I settled for a caipirinha ($4.50) and chicken hearts with onions, from the appetizer menu ($5), and a house salad ($3). The drink was fresh and not too sweet; the hearts (a small platter, easily 2 dinners worth) were perfectly sautéed, a little crispy in spots but not overdone; the salad was greenleaf lettuce, beets, pink tomato wedges, and canned olives, dressed with the oil & vinegar on the table.
Staff were friendly, room was noisy with fellow (mostly Brazilian) diners and hilarious Brazilian TV on a big big screen. Plainly decorated, fairly dimly lit (no glaring fluorescents). Overall it seemed like a really good neighborhood place. Dishes are sized for sharing, and thats what most tables seemed to be doing. Platters going by looked good. Will definitely go back.
I dont have my menu with me but I think of the daily specials the oxtail, the chicken with okra (Wed.), and the feijoada (Sat.) arent on the regular menu.
