Oakland's Shan Dong Review- Delicious noodles!

andrea | Nov 15, 200401:46 PM     2

Hi all,

I made the trek up to Oakland's Shan Dong restaurant on Saturday and it was well worth it! With great suggestions from so many of you, friends and I ordered the boiled veggie dumplings, the Shan dong dumplings, the fried leek "box", and zah-jiang mien.

The dumplings were huge and they did not disappoint, although I preferred the meat ones as they were so juicy. Everything was tasty, but the zah-jiang mien was just incredible! I'm not a fan of the standard dark black bean version. I prefer the lighter-colored, less salty ones, similar to the way my mom makes it. My friends and I were fighting for the last bites and I swear we had to hold back from licking the bowl :D The steamed buns on the table next to us looked delicious, so I'll have to go back and try that. Thanks for all the suggestions!

So are there any other restaurants (preferably in the SJ area) that makes zah-jian mien just like Shan Dong's?
