In the twelfth of the Oakland chowlunch series, six Hounds tried out Thai cuisine at Sabuy Sabuy, Jr. Sabuy Sabuy will be a familiar name to patrons of the original branch at College and Broadway; the "junior" branch has an almost identical menu, but is located in downtown Oakland. I have eated often at the original location, but this was my first visit to "Junior". My initial reaction is that the name is a misfit: Junior is actually bigger (and brighter) than the original location...
We tried the following dishes (and forgive my spelling if it is wrong, I was scribbling). Total cost with tax and tip was $10 each (just under $60). Fun time, as always.
I'll let the rest of the Hounds comment, then come back with some of my own.
Guy Sum (Seafood soup: 2 orders)
Som Tom (green papaya salad)
spicy Thai fried rice with pork
red curry beef
The next Oakland Chowlunch will be announced soon: it will probably be in about two weeks. We are leaning towards Chicken and Waffles, but keep posted for an announcement...
