NYC Pizza, provided you were brought up that way

At last! After a 12 year search, a true New York pizza can be found in Los Angeles, in the least likeliest place.

Tallichet's (pron. TAL-uh-shay) On Lunada Bay on the Palos Verdes Peninsula is the latest occupant in a food services space that has cycled through countless restaurants in recent time.

Located in the Lunada Bay Patio Bldg. at 2325 Palos Verdes Drive West in Palos Verdes Estates, they have assumed many of the items of the previous establishments' menus. What stands out, however, is the pizza. Simple, east coast Italian-American style pizza the way you remember it (provided you were brought up that way): crust with the right balance of crisp and dough, lightly herbed sauce, perfect blend of cheeses and hot grease at a temperature you think they could throw it over the castle wall onto the invading hoards.

The upside: an honest to goodness NYC pizza that reminds this writer of all the great streetside pizzarias of my youth, be it Arturo's at 85th & York, the one on 3rd and Thompson next to Bleecker Bob's, or the one at 78th & York that's now long gone, or the countless others that make New York, New York.

The downside: they only sell whole pies, no individual slices. But you'll realize how long you've been craving a true NYC pizza, you'll probably end up eating the whole thing anyways.
