I'm going to be in NYC briefly next week and would weep tears of gratitude and sugar overdose if I could find a jelly doughnut like the ones I remember. They were rectangular and covered with granulated sugar, not powdered. Raspberry jam. I will be around Grand Central, Penn Station, and in Park Slope Brooklyn without a lot of time to travel elsewhere. Can anyone help?
It is my possibly flawed recollection that this was the standard jelly doughnut of NYC in my youth (1970s) and last time I was there I thought I could just walk into any doughnut shop and get one, but this was emphatically not true, and I noted the inroads of Krispy Kreme with fear and trembling. I hope my jelly doughnut has not been driven to extinction!
