For a NYC friend visiting LA next week.
-- Any price (is on a generous expense account)
-- Within a 20-30 min drive of W LA
-- Most important: great food, service, and ambiance
-- He's mid-50's, and not into a sceney-type place -- just two of the best places in LA for great food, service, ambiance (prefers somewhat elegant)
Two types of places ISO:
1) A great seafood restaurant, sushi would be great but open to other thoughts. Water Grill didn't impress me a couple years ago. How's Kurasawa?
2) Another restaurant that's simply more unusual or for something not seafood -- but very high-end, with excellent service and great cuisine (like a Daniel in NYC). Melisse, L'Orangerie, Valentino, the Belvedere?
I've enjoyed the aforementioned in addition to Giorgio Baldi, Drago, Vincenti, La Cachette, the old Ginza Sushiko, Patina, Spago, Campanile, Jiraffe, etc. But looking for updates on what is still great/ gone downhill for this friend, and perhaps more formal than some of the aforementioned in this paragraph.
Many thanks in advance!
