NYC Apt: Do I need a range hood if my kitchen has a window?

suswang | Apr 21, 202007:51 PM     22

Hi, all.
I live in a walk-up NYC apartment and my kitchen has a window. I've been doing a lot of cooking recently, much like all of you, and my gas range is smelling up (and sometimes smoking up) the entire apartment. Would opening up a couple of windows do enough to remove all/most of this "aerosolized grease" I keep hearing about, or possibly not? Admittedly, I recently set off the smoke alarm even with one window open. I am equally concerned about semi-permanent smells on furniture, walls, etc. Should I get a range hood or just endeavor to always keep the windows open when I cook? And if I get a hood, would a ductless one do me any good? Thanks very much.
