NY Noodletown

I made my first trip there this week. I was a bit underwhelmed. I think you can definitely do better for less money around Chinatown. The press really props this place up though but I feel like it's got a lot of stiffer competition than when it opened.

Seaweed soup with noodles were very bland. Flowering chives with duck didn't have enough bird, which was delicious, but didn't skimp on the fried chives. The sizzling chicken and mushroom sizzling hot pot thing was very greasy. Even a simple thing like Gai Lan with oyster sauce didn't have much oomph to the sauce.

I wanted to try the saltbaked tofu but I'm not into deep fried stuff and I always forget that somehow fried becomes salt baked in the Chinese menu translation.
