I'm heading south from the states for a visit (yes, the Twin Cities, Minneapolis / St.Paul, are north of Toronto - brrrr!), and I'm looking for some great chowish places to eat.
We're adventurous eaters who like places that are authentically ethnic, aren't fancy, and have inexpensive-to-moderate prices. Hidden treasures and mom-&-pop places are great. We don't need alcohol, although I never say no to wine if they have it.
I'd love to hear your suggestions for what not to miss. And I'd also like ideas for cuisines that are hard to find in the Twin Cities (Turkish, Spanish, Persian, Malaysian, Balkan/Serbian/Macedonian/etc., Caribbean, ... ) and some good Indian and Chinese food (My home town is mediocre at these cuisines; it's much better for Vietnamese, Hmong, and Mexican.)
We're visiting family who say they're in a restaurant rut - we'd love to impress them with our knowledge of good places to eat.
We're staying near the Old Mill & Jane subway stops (sorry, don't know the neighborhood name) but we have access to a car and are willing to drive, within reason, for great food.
