As usual this board steers you to the right places, so let me tell all of you about my long weekend in Inverness and the Wine Country - foodwise.
Mankas has a price fixe menu that looked like a ton of food and a pretty hefty price tag. I did hear that on Monday nights they have half the food for half the price. Does anyone know if this deal still is in force?

Instead we went to the Pine Cone Diner in Pt. Reyes Station which is a nice little diner serving the kind of comfort food you'd expect, meatloaf, crab cakes, and sinful big local steaks covered with blue cheese. My wife had the portobello veggie sandwich and I had the garlic chicken over mashed potatoes. Both very resepctable. No room for the cobbler. The next day we had clams at the Station House up the street that were huge and excellent. Neither place was too expensive.

We went over the hill to taste wine and ate on the first night at Julia's kitchen in Copia. I had tuna tartare over avocado and the halibut that had a wonderful crisp curst. My wife had excellent scallops. We shared an apple tart for dessert, superb. This place should be a destination spot for chowhounders at $50 per person inclusive.

I polished off my trip with a birthday dinner at Bouchon. I wonder why anyone would bother with the F.L. after eating here. There were four diners and we had endive salad and rilettes of duck to start, leg of lamb over polenta that was done perfectly (though a bit salty), steak smothered in butter, the duck breast special with red rice and prunes, and gnocci that was actually dry. We ended up with chocolate mousse and superb mango sorbet. A+ bistro food also at $50 per person inclusive.
