Nook, get the lamb chops

Larry | Oct 8, 2004 11:10 AM

I went to Nook (746 9th Ave between 50th and 51st)last night based on a few posts on this board. What a great little spot! I've walked by it so many times without noticing. So many lost meals...

The mushroom "cigars" appetizer was savory and delicious. I think it's portobello mushroom with goat cheese wrapped in filo dough. The lamb chops, ordered medium-rare, come with sides of the red cabbage and mashed potatoes was so delicious. I think there is a garlic-ginger-citrus/vinegar(?) marinade and I nearly ate the rib bones themselves. Dinner for two with one appetizer and no drinks came to $27/person.

We walked in with no reservation just after 7 pm - the place was full at 8:30 when we left.

The bathroom is interesting in that you have to walk through small kitchen (which fits only two people - the chef (owner Konrad?) and his assistant. On the inside of the bathroom door is a standard "employees must wash hands" sign -- and underneath in permanent marker is "For 35 seconds - Chef." I got a kick out of that.
