After a walk around Greenport Conservation Area yesterday, I was ready for a cup of coffee and something to go with it. To my dismay, I discovered that the bakery on Joselin Ave. is closed on Sundays. They served wonderful desserts at the Columbia County Shad Bake in May, so I was eager to go directly to the source.
I headed back south and decided to see what Nola's on Warren St. is like. Busy, busy, busy at 12:30 on Sunday! It's a combination bakery/light breakfast and lunch place worth the stop. I'm not a donut nut, but donuts were being made in front of the patrons. I got cinnamon ones for my son, a piece of very rich crumb cake, a sticky bun (huge and absolutely delicious), and a blueberry stick (blueberries in a flaky pastry). I'm waiting for verdict on the donunts. Pre-made salads looked very fresh. Sandwiches being made looked excellent. It merits a return.
