NJ ethnic, other markets and neighborhoods worth traveling for?

Hello, I live in Staten Island and I'd like to start to explore New Jersey a bit, and include interesting foodie places in my wanderings.

I'd like to hear recommendations about either individual stores, or towns or neighborhoods that offer interesting, unusual foodstuffs; ethnic or not, farmstands or markets, hole-in-the-wall or mega-market, etc., etc.

I'm especially interested in anything close to Staten Island, but also anywhere in NJ that's worth travelling for.

Tomorrow in particular I'm heading south for the day to take a mini-vacation, would like to wander around and find some buccolic, less-crowded (than Staten Island and NYC!) places to spend my birthday and some interesting foodie place(s) would be a nice stop.

Thank you!
