Last night's Austin 'hound dinner

Greg Spence | Jan 10, 2002 09:33 AM

Eight Austin 'hounds met last night at Curra's Grill on Burnet. It was great fun meeting everyone face to face and I look forward to the next dinner (not on a game night, Rob) when we can meet the folks who couldn't make this one.

Curra's served us some good food. My conchinita pibil had great flavor but had been cooked to a near pudding consistency. Sides of black beans and rice were very good. Travis had much better luck with his margarita shrimp and Zeb's shrimp diablo had no trouble disappearing.

The avocado margarita we tried was in my opinion, ill conceived. I quickly switched to a standard version. Sevice was an issue. At one point, there were 16 hands in the air in an attempt to get a fork. Yelling finally worked. With this kind of service, the mandatory 20% "gratuity" ( isn't it more of a service tax if you don't have a choice? It certainly couldn't have been a tip because it did nothing to insure proper service) for large parties. This policy alone would keep me from returning with six or more.

At any rate, we had lots of fun and overall, the food was very good.
