Two-Night Visit w/ My Girlfriend: where to dine...

Simon | Feb 22, 2005 07:04 PM

hi...i may be visiting Montreal in a few weeks w/ my gf for a weekend...a few questions...thanks in advance for any suggestions:

Friday: we'll arrive and be staying in Old Montreal, and go to the symphony at 8 and will probably want a late French bistro supper around 10:30 or 11pm...i've been to L'Express on a previous trip and liked it, but would prefer to try somewhere different: would Bistro Holder be good for a late Friday dinner?...any others we should consider?...we like classic bistro food...

Saturday Night: i'd like to find an elegant and authentic Chinese restaurant...i've read a little about L'Orchidee de Chine...in NY, i have many Chinese favorites, but some of the upscale places in NY (e.g. Shun Lee Palace) tend to be lame and pointless (prettied-up overpriced versions of food that's much better in the Chinatown dives)...is L'Orchidee's menu interesting?...are there any other Chinese places you'd recommend?...And alternately, if there is some restaurant (Asian or otherwise) that would be particularly wonderful and cozy and atmospheric for our Saturday dinner, i'd love to hear the suggestion...

Thanks Much From a Grateful NY-Chowhound Who Loved Montreal On His Previous Visit
