First night in Paris, Dinner in Contrescarpe Neighborhod

We'll be arriving in Paris by train late on a Saturday afternoon in early June (no jet lag to worry about, but may be a bit tired). We'll be staying in the 5th (Hotel des Grand Ecole) near the Place Contrescarpe. It will be my husband's first time in Paris. I'd like to take him to one of the nearby cafes where we can sit outside (weather permitting) & enjoy a relaxing, simple meal with some decent wine. I've heard the quality of the places there can vary widely and wondered if anyone had some recommendations? It doesn't need to be right on the Place, anywhere nearby would be fine. We'd like to stay under 100E for the two of us and wine - even cheaper would be fine. Will we need reservations?

I know it's a bit corny, but I ate in the area there my first time in Paris, and enjoyed hearing the street musicians and watching people stroll by.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks!
