Nick's Gyros Rockford -- homemade cones?

Zak | Dec 10, 200512:42 AM

We've been to both locations including the very slightly
scary looking (but extremely friendly) downtown outlet,
and the conveniently open late drive-through State St.
shop (neither has a dine-in area) and are somewhat impressed. Apparently they either make their own cones, with a nice percentage of lamb, or they somehow modify and improve the commercial versions that make us yawn (or worse). Plus the meat was grilled enough to have some nice dark flavorful bits on the edges -- also taking out some extra fat. For some strange reason they don't beleive in tomatoes, so now we bring along our own!

Would love to hear of any similar shops along the roads,
as we have had only mediocre gyros from Urbana to Madison
and off in several directions.
