Nick's Crispy Tacos

These were not the tacos I was expecting. "Crispy" put in my mind pictures of v-shaped deep fried corn shells. However, these tortillas are not like that. Instead they are soft corn tortillas that are griddled for longer than normal, then folded around the toppings and wrapped in paper. The result is a tortilla with patches of crunchy parts held together with soft seams; a tectonic taco if you will.

The large tacos are all about $3.50. You can ask for "Nick's Style," with guacamole and jack cheese, for an extra 75 cents. The carnitas, ordered Nick's Style, were quite dry, tasted fine, but lacked the rich pork flavor of better carnitas; the guac was fresh and creamy; overall an acceptable taco. The fish taco should have been called a "batter taco with fish," it contained lots of beer batter (which was very good and very flavorful) that overpowered the white fish. It also came packed with cabbage (horray!) and crema. Though I feel uncomfortable calling it a fish taco, it was still pretty darn good.

Bonus points to Nick's for having a fiery hot habanero salsa, you'll need to ask for it at the counter as they think it's too dangerous to leave out on the tables.

Summary: a decent stop for a somewhat expensive snack if you happen to be in the area, but I wouldn't recommend going out of your way for it.

Beer is served. I ate during lunch, when it was fairly quiet and empty. The place apparently turns into a nightclub in the evenings.
