I just had the curious experience of being quoted in a newspaper article thanks to something I had written in Chowhound. What's really curious is that this is the THIRD time this has happened to me in the past couple of years - twice it was in lifestyle-type articles in metropolitan dailies, and once in a national magazine when the author thanked me for giving him access to a rare antique book on the subject of mixology that I happened to have mentioned in a Chow post.
This last time I told the writer as she was interviewing me that it was my third time, and she made a comment about how Chowhound and similar sites give journalists access to lots of "real people" (her words). I suppose she's right - I've never thought of us as unreal - most of us, anyway. ;-)
Is this a common experience? How many others of you have gotten into the paper this way?
