There’s something about eating outside on a warm day on a restaurant’s waterfront patio that improves one’s view of life in general. It makes you kindly disposed to things so I may have wanted to wax lyrical about 22 Bowens (or 22B as it also seems to style itself), even if lunch hadn’t been good. As it was, lunch was good. Very good. Even if lunch was just sandwiches.
My partner went with the burger. A big thick juicy burger that she reckoned may have been the best burger she’s ever eaten. Certainly, she can’t recall one better. And, to improve things still further, it was topped with smoked bacon, cheddar and guacamole. Just writing about it me sort of wish I’d ordered it as well.
Well, sort of wish. Because I was a very happy devourer of my roast beef sandwich. Thinly sliced beef –rare and delicious, a little cheddar melted over it and served in a lightly toasted torpedo roll. It was served “au jus”, which I assume is American English for serving it with a little pot of thin, tasteless brown liquid. That aside, this was a roast beef sandwich of which dreams are. Please go if you’re in the area – you’ll be richly rewarded.
