I'm a hot dog fan, so the bright and cheery signage for the newish Brazilian hot dog shop made me stop. It's right on the main drag on Broadway (which, for those not familiar with the area, is Rt.99 and a straight shot from Sullivan Square.)
If I had to choose between a minimalist hot dog and one with tons of toppings, I suppose I'd choose minimalist. But I'm open to anything, and I've been eager to try the Brazilian style, which I knew can be anything but minimalist.
The menu has a range of hot dogs but I only tried the Emprensadao, which seems to be the signature fully-loaded version. I was offered a choice of chicken or beef hot dog, or a beef hot dog wrapped in bacon (the menu mentions beef&pork dogs, but I was told there is no pork). The roll was extra wide and sort of like brioche. Since this was the only hot dog I tried, I don't know if this is a special roll for this type of stuffed hot dog, or if this is their regular roll for everything (the menu only mentions one type - "classic"). It seems to me that it would be a little big for a more minimalist hot dog, so I wouldn't be surprised if they had a another one.
Then you get just a ton of stuff. Pulled beef or chicken, various sauces, like the well known mayo-ketchup combo sauce, peas, corn, diced peppers, hot peppers, mashed potato, potato sticks. Then the whole thing is put into a panini press with some sort of grated cheese on the outside, so the roll toasts and gets encrusted in a frico-like crispy cheese layer.
I loved it and I'll go back for sure. The standard size dog can get lost in the mix, but that's the style as far as I know.
Bright and shiny, with a fun, fast food vibe. Friendly workers, perhaps one was the owner but I'm not sure, but they both were great and were proud of their offerings.
