NEEDED: Idiot's Guide to Roasting/Drying Chilis

The farmers' markets hereabouts have fresh Thai Hotties in abundance now, and I'm of a mind to create a stock of dried chilis for my wife's cooking (we only do Chinese). I have no idea where to begin and am not planning to buy special equipment such as a food dehydrator, unless absolutely necessary.
