My husband and I went to Nectar on Saturday night for our anniversary. A very limited menu. Five appetizers and five entrees. Very minimal descriptions written down on the menu so we had to ask the waiter to describe what we thought we sounded interesting. We decided to order the two dishes that he didn't describe. Obviously, we weren't enthralled with what he offered.(At Obelisk, there is also a very small selection but part of the "routine" is that the waiter automatically describes each dish.)
The appetizers (crab and a salad) were fine. My husband had the veal cheeks and I had the hangar steak. The veal checks were very good. I ordered the hangar steak medium. It arrived half well done and half medium rare. With wine, one dessert and bottled water, the bill, including tip, was over $200. Not an evening that we felt was worth it. One more very strange thing - the chairs were a very slippery wood and if you sat up straight, you would slide down. I actually asked the waiter if he ever lost a patron this way and he said that they keep a wooden plank for one couple for just this reason!
