Natural Products Expo West report

I just got back from a brief (1 1/2 hour) tour through Natural Products Expo West at the Anaheim Convention Center. The food pavilion had some interesting surprises.

Probably the oddest was soy caviar...looks very much like black or green caviar, tastes vaguely fishy and salty, and is made from soy with a special secret process involving extruding...I would love to sub it at a catering and see what ppl say.

My favorite product was a chile-cucumber fruit ice bar. YUM. I think the manufacturer was Palapa or A la palapa...really tasty. They also had other interesting flavors like sweet corn and dulce de leche that I didn't get around to trying.

Saw the lovely Nell Newman and tasted some of her products (Newman's Organics), which I liked very much.

Straus Family Creamery was there. I knew they were great, but they are incredibly nice in person too. Their whole milk yogurt is like nothing else. Now they have a unhomogenized but pasteurized low-fat milk. Can't wait to give it a try.
