National Cafe

Dave Feldman | Aug 26, 2000 02:12 AM

*Finally* made it to the National Cafe and was very pleased with this much-praised Cuban on First Ave. and 13th. I was especially impressed with the unthickened beef soup, and the fantastic mofongo, which contains more meat than any version I've yet encountered. The chicken fricassee and Ropa Vieja were both no-nonsense entrees. I was also wild about my banana badido. The yellow rice and red beans were fine, although not reason enough to make the trip.
