The standouts here are the sandwiches and cheesecake.
i love the sandwiches heated in the wood oven, the crunch from biting into the roll is life-enhancing wonderful.
This week i had the Cuban Style Pork Sandwich With an Orange Mojito Salsa
The tender, tasty pulled pork was heaped on one side of the roll and the salsa, with juicy wonderful whole oranges on the other. Hog heaven. Simply Hog Heaven.
The menu changes weekly and next week there will be French dip. Sandwiches come with a great salad topped currently with beets and pickled onions.
The owner's wife may be starting her own cheesecake company ... working title ... Slap your mama cheesecake. They are cupcake sized and the flavor changes daily.
So far I've had banana cream pie cheesecake and apple pie cheese cake. Both were wonderful and full of flavor. Sorry I didn't pick up the ginger pear on another visit.
Whole chickens are only offered after 3pm and call to reserve.
I have mentioned Crossroads a number of times but put off writing its own topic. The reason is the chicken is Mary's and I think they brine it because of the texture. I am not a fan of Mary's or brined chicken ... so I didn't like the chicken, but it was a personal preference.
The car on the way home was filled with a wonderful smoky aroma and there was a bit of smoke in the meat which was nice. I just didn't like the texture so I made chicken soup out of the rest.
That is where my world changed. The soup sat in the freezer for a while and when I had it for lunch one day i wondered if I forgot that I somehow had added pork to the soup. That smoky chicken gave a whole new rich dimension to that soup.
They also have chili made with Rancho Gordo beans, and mac and cheese which are fine.
I keep trying to convince him to make a meatball sandwich because then I think I would die and go to heaven to have that on the crunchy roll.
