Moving to London this summer - longish

I was glad to see so many posts concerning the London food scene on this board and am hoping to rely on all of your advice. I am being relocated to London in August (for work reasons) and I am not overly enthusiastic about the move! While I love the idea of being closer to Europe and daydream about four hour meals in France, Pizza in Tuscany, fresh seafood on the Mediterranean, and exploring all the wonderful cuisines of continental Europe.. I'm not so thrilled about the UK.

I'm the kind of person who plans all her trips around food and most of my free time is spent in markets looking for unusual things to cook or in the kitchen concocting things. Or in restaurants eating them, Or with my nose in a cookbook or food article. Here in New York I love Union Square Farmer's Market, Chelsea Market, Chinatown, and the restaurant scene... Good food is so easy to get as is information
on where to get unusual ingredients or try new things. As is evidenced by the Manhattan board on Chowhound....

Can you give me advice? Favorite restaurants? Favorite food halls and markets? Areas in London that are more "food friendly" with lots of different ethnic and creative restaurants and specialist grocery stores? (a major incentive for where we will end up gettin a flat). Are there other boards and sites for foodies specific to London?

And.. does anyone know anything about Ealing's farmer's market? I read somewhere that a large one was supposed to open this past fall. Did it happen and is it any good?

Thank you,

Akiko
