I am moving to Detroit at the end of August. I am only in town for a year, so I want to get as much out of the year as possible. I know nothing about Detroit at all.
I am working downtown, so I would like to live somewhere within driving distance.
Is there a neighborhood that is good for chowhounding? Downtown seems like it may be a little thin, although I have heard that the Greek and Mexican neighborhoods are close by.
Dearborn seems good for Middle Eastern food.
Is the area near Wayne State a good area to live/eat? How about Ferndale? Is there a reason everyone keeps recommending Ferndale?
I'm just looking for a neighborhood with good eats, and some divey places to whet my whistle.
