Movida [Melbourne]

PhilD | Dec 2, 201105:42 PM

We found ourselves in the centre of town with a spare lunchtime on a recent Saturday so took a chance and headed to Movida the notoriously tricky to get into tapas bar. At 12:30 we had a choice of bar sells although the tables were all full, however by 1:00 they were turning people away.

I thought the food was very very good. I really love Tapas bars but dislike them intensely outside Spain. In London they are overpriced and over hyped IMO, fun yes, but nothing like the real thing. Movida isn't cheap but it is pretty close to a Spanish tapas experience, or should I say a Basque experience as it reminded me a lot of San Sebastian in terms of food style.

We hoovered up:

1. Croquetas De Choco En Su Tinta - squid ink croquettes - $4 each
2. Bunuelos De Bacalao Con Pil-Pil - salt cod and potato fritters with lemon emulsion - $4.5 each
3. Condorinz - preessed quail and morcilla with apple and pickled garlic - $5.5 each
4. Cordero Al Chilindron - Pyrenees wet roast lamb breast with fino and paprika sauce - $4.4 each
5. Pollo Escabache Al Miguel - spiced chicken escabache tapa on crisp crouton - $4.5 each
6. Bocadillo - sardin sandwich with compressed capsicum - $3.5 each
7. Pato Agridulce - slow cokked duck shank with hazelnuts, raisins and onions - $11.5

All washed down with some fine Albarino.
