My wife uses her mortar & pestle (M&P) quite often. But I’m still not hooked on using a M&P.
However last week I made pesto together with some fettuccine in my M&P and it really tasted way better than a store bought pesto.
But other than crushing some black peppercorns once in a while, I rarely use my M&P.
I only own a rather smallish one in granite, but I’m upgrading to a much larger one, as I’m tired of wearing my pesto after making it LOL
I thought a small M&P would be fine, but I got to admit that, when it comes to a M&P for food preparation, size does matter.
My old one in granite is 9 cm tall and 13 cm wide. The new one in granite is 14 cm tall and 20 cm wide. I’ll try to use it for guacamole and salsas too.
Also planning on making my own 5-spice and dukka mixes in it.
I also own an electric and manual spice grinder, but making it in a M&P just seems much more authentic and you really get the oils and aroma out of the ingredients in a more effective genuine way in an old school M&P.
My new M&P is in the photos.
Do you use your M&P often?
Do you own several different material and size M&P’s?
