Iwent to Morelia supermarket on Clark just south of Jarvis at lunchtime, and picked up a very nice (and unusual) pulpo (octopus) a la viscaina -- with olives, tomatoes, chilies, onion, and green pepper. The octopus was quite tender, too -- not overcooked. I also picked up an escamote, a caramelized sweet potato cooked in a thick brown sugar sauce (sweets for the sweet?). They have a good assortment of foods to take out -- barbacoa on weekends, dried beef (which I have not tried), good carnitas, deep fried mojarra (a kind of small lake fish). I picked up (to cook, not at takeout)but have not yet tried some green chorizo, a speciality of Toluca, made (according to the label) with pork and pumpkin seeds. Has anyone eaten this before? Also picked up a Mexican red mole mix which I want to try on some chicken or (better yet) rabbit.
