Half Moon Bay Brewing Company

Hey everybody! Last night my husband and I rode out to the beachfront HMB Brewery and were kind of disappointed. The live Jazz was great, and the devils edge summer brew was crisp and just a bit tnagy (a nice summer brew), but the food left something to be desired. At a place like this that specializes in pub fare, I want my fried to be golden, crispy and perfect. We ordered the spicy calamari which was overcooked and a bit soggy. I am not sure their frier is hot enough, because the batter was falling of the rings, and the calamari was tough. It was a disappointment. The cajun spices were pretty good, although repeated on my blackened snapper sandwich so my appetizer and main course tasted almost identical. My husband had the Half Moon Bay Burger which he said was okay, and both of us thought the shining star in the evening were the fries (maybe a different frier than the calamari?). They were crisp, golden and delicious. For enthusiasts, they are 1/8th of inch cut, and really well done. We had made reservations and so were seated inside promptly, but the outdoor seating had a two hour wait. We will rarely wait for anything, but I would said the food here really isn't worth a 2 hour wait. Summation, if you are making the trek, come for the atmosphere, or their in house brews, but expect little from the food. Maybe you will be pleasantly surprised.
