I recently purchased a fruit shaped like an elongated pinecone that was labeled as a "Monstera." The fruit was covered in green hexagonal tiles that popped off as the fruit ripened, exposing a light colored flesh divided into kernels. The flesh of the fruit was pretty delicious, kind of like a custardy pineapple, though less acidic.
I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with this fruit? Some internet research has provided a few other names for it-- split leaf philodendron, windowleaf, or ceriman.
I was eager to try this weird guy, so I scooped the kernels directly into my mouth with a spoon. The packaging suggested making tropical drinks or sorbets. If anyone's tried these suggestions, I'd love to hear about your results.
