The Plainfields, South Plainfield in particluar
has not brought forth particularly edible cuisine (been here 15 years).Sure there have been gems like the Dhaba (RIP), Loaves & Fishes, and Ferrero's (Inman Plaza) superb pizza..but mostly we get horrors like Tropical Garden.
There is, however,a new and ambitious (though not fancy) Indian (offereing North,South and even Manchurian/Chinatown & Thai ) selections that is AN ABSOLUTE HOME RUN! In fact,I've usually had to go to Jackson Heights for similar pleasure. It's called Monsoon Express and is on Oak Tree Road in the same mall as the ratty Honk Kong Market and the most pleasantly manned Pho 99 and Sam's Grills.
They play great videos and the sublime Murgh Bharwan Tang, and deeply delicious Tikka Masala, various breads, biryanis and mango lassis..even the rasmalai are top shelf and explain the out of the box crowds. Hallelujiah. Now if we could only get a decent latino steamtable joint...
