Mofongo in Luquillo, PR

Hoyt Pollard | Jan 2, 2008 07:05 AM

There’s a roadside mofongo truck on the strip between the Amigo grocery store and the Walgreen’s drug store in Luquillo (just off Route 3). Raul is there every Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. He sells conch, shrimp, and octopus (I tried all three, and my vote goes to the octopus), and you can get it as a salad, stuffed in an arepa, or as mofongo. It’s the best thing I ate during my four-day stay in Puerto Rico. If you like a little spice, try the pique sauce kept in an unmarked vinegar bottle on the table.
