Restaurants & Bars 2

I found what I believe is a hidden treasure in Modena. Right across the street from the food market at Via Albinelli 40 is the Tratorria Aldina. Do not look for a sign or any obvious indication of a restaurant on the outside. There is a small placque by the mailboxes that indicate the restaurant is up the stairs on the 1st floor(our 2nd floor).

It was packed for lunch with just about all tables full. The noise level was high which I think added to the Italian flavor. Service was very friendly, but not rushed. If you don't have a lot of time and want a romantic atmosphere this is not the place to go. We had to ask the waiter for bread and additional glasses for our wine, but I think the food was well worth the effort.

There was no menu and the selections were offered verbally (in Italian). We speak limited Italian but understood most of the offerings. My pasta al forno was perfect. My wife had ravioli which she thought was delicious. The 2nd plate was veal in a balsamic reduction.

There was a graduation party with about 15 students at the next table. Noisy and created a perfect Italian experience.

The bill came to 37 Euro for the two of us for the first and second plates, wine, water, and expresso.
