I screwed up Fri. nite thinking TOH had extended their Rest. Week dinners, they only had lunch going on last week. But we decided to stay and got a couple fancy cocktails (vodka, cassis and champagne I think) and a decent bread basket. I went with two apps which I did last time there, one being duck confit again but this time, it was a much smaller portion and the sauce was a little overly sweet. It was shreds of duck with a handful of gnocchi, not bad but not worth $15. The spinach salad w/ goat cheese, walnuts and pear was decent but again, overly sweet with the dressing. Very good size tho for $9. My friend started with a large bowl of lobster bisque then had a very large lamb shank w/ mashed for about $28. He enjoyed both and was stuffed. I got a pineapple tea cake w/ green tea ice cream that was fine enough ($9). I ended up spending about $65 total for that plus a glass of wine, so it wasn't more than if they'd been doing the $30.03 dinners. Nice service, nice view obviously, nothing to write home about but not as bad as people make it out to be sometimes.
Just tried the new Mission Hill Pub (I think that's the name, former Choppin Block) and had a decent tempura fried fish sandwich with wasabi aioli (I think) and fries. Fries weren't hot enough, fish was very hot, needed salt, but not bad for $6.99. Same for my friend's reuben. Lots of interesting sandwiches in the $6.99-$8.99 range and dinners around $11.99. Only two TVs, very clean, very different from the funky Choppin Block.
